In modern engineering design, accurate CAD modeling is crucial. For Amstrup Engineering, the challenge was obtaining precise CAD models, a task that usually requires a lot of time and resources. Bent Løkke, the head of Amstrup Engineering, shared how they used the Creality Raptor 3D scanner to quickly and efficiently overcome these challenges and successfully complete several design projects.
Project Background
Bent was working on the design and manufacturing of a new vacuum lifter. Since the supplier could not provide the 3D drawings of the vacuum pump and on-site measurements were insufficient for creating an accurate 3D drawing, traditional manual modeling methods could not meet the project's needs. To complete the project quickly and accurately, Bent chose the Creality Raptor 3D scanner, leveraging its efficient scanning technology to create the 3D model of the vacuum pump.
Scanner Application: From Scanning to CAD Modeling
Bent's workflow is simple and efficient: First, he used the Creality Raptor 3D scanner to scan the vacuum pump and obtain precise scanning data. The data was then imported into Alibre Design software for alignment and optimization, enabling the generation of a 3D CAD model. Thanks to the accurate dimensional data provided by the 3D scanner, Bent was able to complete the design for the vacuum pump on the first attempt, avoiding the need for repeated revisions and adjustments.
This process is particularly useful for objects that lack existing drawings or cannot be accurately measured. By directly scanning components and applying the scanned data to CAD modeling, Bent was able to complete the design quickly while ensuring precise dimensions for all parts.
Bent said, “Using 3D scanning technology, we can ensure the first version of the design fits perfectly on the machine, significantly improving work efficiency.”

Saving Time and Improving Precision
The application of this technology not only saved a lot of design time but also enhanced engineering precision. Especially when rapid prototyping is required, 3D scanning becomes an indispensable tool. Bent emphasized, “With time being tight, we can’t afford any mistakes. By using the scanner, we ensure that every part is accurately sized, greatly improving work efficiency and production accuracy.”

Sharing and Collaboration
Through 3D scanning technology, Bent not only solved design challenges but also ensured that the entire process was both efficient and precise. Looking ahead, as 3D scanning technology continues to evolve, we believe it will play a significant role in more engineering design fields, helping engineers and designers deliver higher quality results in a shorter amount of time.
